Parents Against Junk Dining is a task force composed of both parents and faculty who are concerned with the nutrition of our children during the school day. We believe that every child at Rocky Hill deserves well-balanced, freshly prepared, nutritious and delicious meals. We are examining our current program to find out how our school can offer better food choices. We are modeling our efforts on Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution, which focuses on cooking from scratch with fresh ingredients. You can find out more about this program at http://www.jamieoliver.com.

Since the beginning of the year, we have asked our current provider, Aramark, to offer more fresh produce, whole grains and vegetarian dishes, as well as desserts, snacks, and beverages containing less sugar and fat. This is an ongoing process and we appreciate your patience during this transition time. Please leave us any input on food or drink choices you would like to see in the future.

Our committee, along with Jon Schoenwald and Mark Buckley, is researching how we can improve Rocky Hill’s food, which might mean hiring a different food provider. We invite anyone who is interested in joining our efforts to contact Jana Bruns at jana.bruns@gmail.com. Join our email subscription to follow our blog for progress. Please leave us any comments, questions or concerns. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.

Sharing a meal as a community is a grand opportunity. Efforts to create a menu, and an environment, which honors the mind-body connection is to be applauded. This endeavor will surly have far reaching, and long lasting impacts within our Rocky Hill campus family of students, faculty and parents.

I agree with you, Meg. Any one who wishes, please leave any comments or questions. Also, provide us with any feedback on foods you would like to see on the new menu.
